Model Student Outcomes

Parents have dreams and hopes for their children. Right now you may be focused on what’s best for your child this year, but fast forward a few years to the end of 8th Grade.    Your child has just finished the middle school years and is heading off to high school.  Think about what is going to be important to you at that point?  What strengths do you want your child to have – academically, spiritually, emotionally?  What characteristics do you think they will need to be successful in high school, college, and life in general?
Principal Centerbar has met with over a 100 families in Educational Success Consultations over the past year and almost all have cited these four things:

Parents want to see their child…
  • Capable: Ready for the curriculum of the next level, possessing a love of learning, making good decisions, and capable of problem solving – in and out of the classroom; with friends or on their own.
  • Compassionate: showing kindness to others, having good character, able to stand up for others, recognizing needs and being part of a solution.
  • Confident: knowing who they are, what they stand for and secure in their family values, willing to try new things, open to new concepts, able to say “No,” willing to take a stand, be a leader, be a team player, and most importantly, willing to try and fail because they have the confidence to get up and try again.
  • Strong in their Christian Faith: able to live life joyfully and to recognize their blessings, secure in their relationship with Jesus, and comfortable in reaching out to others in matters of faith.
We call these traits the 4 C’s of Learning for Life.  These are all traits that are purposefully taught, encouraged, and nurtured. It is what Advent School is all about!  It does take time, diligence and persistence and that is why we encourage families to commit to staying with Advent from Kindergarten through Eighth grade.  However, while maximum benefits come from a long term partnership between home and school, tangible growth can be seen no matter what age or stage a student joins Advent and we have many stories of changing lives for students even when they join us for 8th grade.
